COMPONENTS OF A PRESSURE JET BURNER

Inlet Air Duct:

As shown in the fig the air casing is mounted over the motor. The function of the air duct is to reduce the noise level while the motor is driving the impeller. The inner surface of the casing is lined with a sound-absorbing material, which is called acoustic lining.

Oil Pump:

The fuel oil pump is mounted over the same shaft on which the impeller is mounted (Monobloc arrangement). The oil pump is an internal gear pump. The function of the pump is to pressurize the fuel to the desired pressure required for proper atomization.

Oil Return Pressure Regulator:

In the return line of the fuel oil, a regulator assembly is mounted which regulates the pressure of the oil in the circuit.  The return line pressure can be adjusted using a screw provided on the regulator.

Gauges:

Gauges  (temperature and pressure) are mounted on the regulator assembly. These continuously indicate the pressure and temperature of the oil in the circuit.

Heater:

An oil heater is mounted along with the pump in order to heat the oil to the desired temperature. It has a heating coil along with a thermostat. The thermostat shuts or starts the supply of the current to the heating coil as and when the temperature rises above or drops below the set points.

Impeller:

The impeller driven by the motor blows air into the combustion space through the lance assembly and wind box.

Volute Casing:

This is an aluminum casing that houses the impeller.

Air Director plate:

This plate is placed in the wind box and it directs the airflow towards the primary air can.

Lance Assembly:

It houses the primary air can with atomizer nozzles, diffuser plate, photocell, solenoid valves (on/off), ignition electrodes, and pipes that carry oil.

Primary air Can:

It directs the primary air into the combustion space. Houses the atomizer nozzles.

Atomizer nozzles:

The number of nozzles depends upon the type of burner.

                                ON/OFF 1 nozzle

   HIGH/LOW 2 nozzles

       3-STAGE 3 nozzles

The function of these atomizer nozzles is to atomize the fuel into tiny droplets and facilitate combustion.

Solenoid Valves:

Behind each atomizer nozzle, a solenoid valve is provided which is activated or closed according to the pressure in the boiler.

Punker Plate:

It also is known as the Diffuser plate. It breaks the flow of air into primary and secondary flows. It basically produces a swirl, which determines the flame length and stability.

Ignition Transformer:

It is mounted on the skid along with the other units. The function of the transformer is to provide the high voltage needed to produce a spark between the ignition electrodes.
