STRAINER SCREEN

Screens are used in strainers to trap and remove debris and other foreign matter in the flowing liquid or gases. Screen type should be selected depending upon the type of fluid, pressure, flow rate, and other considerations.

1) Perforated screens- these are formed by punching a large number of holes in a flat sheet of stainless steel. Perforated screens are usually described in terms of the hole diameter.

2) Mesh screen- mesh formed by stainless steel wires. The wires are arranged in a plain-woven pattern. Mesh screens are categorized in terms of mesh, which expresses the number of openings per linear inch (25.44mm) of the screen. The area of the opening varies depending upon the wire diameter.
